About the artist

Iwona Łyś-Dobradin

Iwona Łyś-Dobradin is a distinguished sculptor with classical training, residing in the vibrant enclave of Winter Park, Florida. Born in Poland, Iwona initially began her journey into the world of sculpture in her hometown (the art studio of the House of Culture) and, after finishing high school, continued her education at the prestigious Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. There, she studied from 1977 to 1982 under the mentorship of Professor Marian Konieczny, the most prominent figure in
the field. She graduated with honors in 1982, specializing in bronze and casting, culminating in her thesis project titled "Pantomime," an impressive masterpiece that garnered both critical acclaim and a medal of distinction. The two-meter-tall sculpture "Pierrot" was the first exhibit of the Gallery of One Creator "Dziedziniec" in Krakow, which brought Iwona recognition from the Ministry of Culture and a scholarship for young, exceptional artists.

After completing her studies, Iwona shared her knowledge by teaching aspiring young sculpture students at the Fine Arts High School in Wiśnicz. During this time, she established her sculpture studio in Nowa Huta and actively participated in many art exhibitions and competitions, which secured her membership in the prestigious Association of Polish Artists and Designers. Her artistic journey was temporarily paused when life's upheavals took her across the ocean to the United States. Since then, she has divided her time between Florida and her native Poland, creating sculptural masterpieces in bronze, aluminum, and ceramics.

Her works have adorned numerous exhibitions, including her solo exhibition "Third Dimension" in 2019, showcased in prestigious venues such as the Palace of Arts in Krakow and the House of Culture in Radomsko. Another highly acclaimed solo exhibition titled "The Subtleties of the Unusual" focused on her metalworks and was very well received. Additionally, her works have been presented in many art exhibitions throughout the state of Florida, and her sculptures are cherished in private collections.

It is noteworthy that Iwona is a valued member of several artistic organizations. She is associated with the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, FLAG (The Florida Artists Group), a collective dedicated to promoting professional artists in Florida, and the Florida Sculptors Guild, which is committed to supporting education and appreciation of sculpture. Furthermore, she was selected for the prestigious New England Sculptors Association.

Throughout her fruitful career, Iwona Łyś-Dobradin has remained dedicated to her art, constantly pushing the boundaries of sculpture through innovative use of materials and profound artistic vision. Her works not only reflect her technical skills but also contain deep narrative and emotional resonance, making her creations carriers of positive, optimistic, and humanistic energy, permanently creating a unique, individual style of expression that identifies her as the author of beautiful works.
