REPRODUKCJE is a new series of paintings by Bartosz Czarnecki featuring copies of the works of renaissance, baroque or late 19th century masters. It is in fact a kind of artistic experiment, in which the artist decides to face he classics of painting, but at the same time, he wants to fill it with this young artistic spirit. This is how he wishes to highlight the problem of reproductions in the contemporary world. Therefore, he works on specific, flagship masterpieces, the ones that are the most often reproduced in the albums dedicated to paintings, books on art & culture, textbooks, magazines, etc. A painting reproduced in, for instance, an album presenting paintings is not a painting […] It has become a copy printed by a printer. [Hence] I do not paint copies of paintings, I paint a painting basing on the reproduction – says the artist. And everything started with the topic of still life, because I wanted the painting that was being copied by me to be associated with classical painting. I ended up choosing still life by the Dutch master, Willem Claeszoon Heda, but I also thought about other subjects. I have wanted the essence to matter more, i.e. the issue of the reproduction, rather than the subject itself – continues the artist.
