About the artist

Mariusz Tschierse (born 1973)

A graduate of the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he is a painter and author of oil paintings combining elements of hyperrealism, surrealism, and symbolism. For over thirty years, he has been consistently developing his own painting language, in which technical precision meets rich metaphor and a critical view of the present day.

The artist's work focuses on the metaphorical depiction of the foundations of civilization – its mechanisms, illusions, and contradictions – built from everyday objects. His paintings are both delightfully precise and full of anxiety – they reveal the fragility of structures that we consider durable and obvious on a daily basis.

Thanks to their extraordinary attention to detail and technical craftsmanship, these paintings affect the viewer on two levels – first, they delight with their illusion and mastery of technique, and then they draw the viewer into reflection on the condition of the contemporary world.

Until now, the artist's works have mainly been in private collections, which has allowed him to remain completely independent and consistently develop his own vision. Currently, the artist is seeking to broaden his dialogue with the public, among other things, by preparing an exhibition.

"In my art, I try to reveal the hidden mechanisms of modern civilization. I am interested in what we take for granted as permanent and obvious—money, technology, social systems—but which in reality turns out to be fragile and illusory. I paint to create images that, on the one hand, delight with their detail and illusion, and on the other, provoke reflection on the world in which we live."
