Henryk Opałka (1929 - 2018)

Was born on 18 September 1929 in Marcoux, France) – Polish graphic designer specialising in lithography, brother of Roman Opałka. Together with his family, he spent WW2 in Germany. During 1940s, he was a student of Hoffman and Petzolt who were associated with Wunderlich school. Following the end of war, he returned to Bessèges in France. In 1946, he came to Poland where, for many years, he worked as “the master of workshop” in the lithography workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Experimental Lithography Workshop in Saska Kępa – one of Warsaw's districts. His students included:  Jolanta Błaszczyk, Małgorzata Chwiałkowska-Rakasz, Robert Kurzaj, Andrzej Newelski, Anna Socha-Jelonek, Grażyna Małowicka, Katarzyna Ortwein, Anna Sobol, Piotr Szancer, Krystyna Wąsik, Kazimierz Makowski.
