Description

Poland is The Polish Champion in biscuit consumption

Surprisingly good information is coming from the Central
Statistical Office (CSO). The CSO has published accounts on
the production of confectionery products, in particular star
biscuits with marmalade and griddled cakes.
During the holiday season, their production increased by
more than 2000%. This is in response to the relentless demand
- the authority estimates that this year the BCPC (biscuit
consumption per capita) will exceed 1,000. This means that
Poles consume almost three biscuits a day.
Even higher numbers are coming from exports. Analysts
forecast that such high production will contribute an addi-
tional 1% to Poland's GDP growth. 'The data is music to
my ears.' I am happy because we will be able to allocate the
budget surplus to the most needy social groups in our coun-
try. The Sejm is already working on laws to assist property
developers,' said the Finance Minister in an interview with
a Herald reporter.
What caused the fashion for Polish pastries? There is no simple
answer, most likely several factors contributed to it - the
success of last year's Biscuiter festival in Gdynia, whisper
marketing, and celebrity influence. Paparazzi have caught
many celebrities eating Polish pastries, including Dave
Grohl, Billie Eilish and Patrick Texas.
Poland has announced that the biscuits will be recognised
as a national culinary heritage and that it will apply for
protection of the recipe under EU law.
