Description
From the series "Parochets."
Text: "Doves flew over, countless doves, they began to flap their wings and put out the fire" (Yiddish). The heroine of the drama "The Dybbuk" is shown old curtains for the ark at night in the synagogue and told their story. One of them was saved from the burning synagogue thanks to the fact that hundreds of pigeons flew in and with a flutter of their wings extinguished the fire. The author of the play, Sh. An-ski, used themes from stories heard during his ethnographic research in Podolia and Volhynia before WWI.
