According to the Torah, on the second day the firmament was created by the separation of the upper and lower waters, and according to the Midrash (parables) - also the angels, the underworld and the throne of the Almighty. The text in the circle is a biblical description; inside at the top - "schechinah" (a term for the Divine presence in the universe); at the bottom - "sheol" or abyss, the land of the dead.
